Miguel Albuquerque is a Portuguese politician who has been serving as the President of the Regional Government of Madeira since 2015. Born on May 6, 1961, in Funchal, Madeira, he is a member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD).
Albuquerque started his political career in 1987 when he was elected as a member of Madeira's regional legislative assembly. He has held several positions in the regional government, including Secretary of Tourism, Culture, and Housing.
In 2002, he became the mayor of Funchal, the capital city of Madeira. Under his leadership, Funchal saw significant development and modernization. He was re-elected as mayor three times, in 2005, 2009, and 2013.
In 2015, Albuquerque was elected as the President of the Regional Government of Madeira, succeeding Alberto João Jardim, who had held the position for 37 years. Albuquerque's government has focused on economic growth, infrastructure development, and social welfare. He has also promoted Madeira as a tourist destination and a hub for international business.
Albuquerque has been recognized for his contributions to politics and public service. He has received several awards and honors, including the Order of Merit from the Portuguese government.
